Teaching Yoga with Trauma in Mind
Time: 10:45 AM - 12:45 PM
Date: March 4th
Hosted By: Jess Ryan, LPC, NCC, E-RYT 500, and Steph Hanson, LPC, NCC, E-RYT
As yoga teachers, and other wellness industry professionals, we hold the intention of doing good. We want to help people to feel better as a result of our services. Though we are - like many - more “trauma informed” than we used to be, does this make us prepared to help?
Join Jess Ryan, LPC, NCC, E-RYT 500, and Steph Hanson, LPC, NCC, E-RYT, for this two hour session for yoga teachers and mental health professionals hoping to integrate yoga and other somatic practices. We’ll discuss:
- Scope of practice: what you CAN do, and when to “refer out”
-
The difference between trauma aware, trauma informed, and trauma trained
-
How a yoga practice can support healing
-
Best Practices for yoga teachers
-
Resources for further study and training

Kirtan
Time: 5-7 PM
Date: April 1st
Hosted By: Ron Ryan MMed & Jess Ryan LPC, NCC, E-RYT 500
Join us in-studio to experience the joyful chanting meditation called kirtan. Kirtan is an ancient practice in the Bhakti yoga tradition that is intended to release energetic blocks and raise the vibration of energy in the body.
Chanting kirtan melts away the veil of your everyday self and brings you in touch with your divine center. We go inward to discover our inner peace and light so that we can bring it forward into the world.
Be prepared to sit comfortably on the floor or email us (hello@seekyogastudio.com) to request a folding chair. Kirtan is a meditative experience not recommended for small children. Otherwise, all are welcome. No experience necessary.
